Nomeado em seis categorias e vencedor em todas elas, onde se incluem as de “Melhor Álbum”, “Melhor Gravação” e “Canção do Ano”, Bruno Mars, artista que vem ao Rock in Rio-Lisboa, dominou por completa a famosa cerimónia, onde o rock teve um papel secundário. Fará sentido, em 2018, dizer que o rock está morto?
É preocupante, mas a verdade é que rock quase que foi ridicularizado nos Grammy, já que os vencedores das categorias foram divulgados antecipadamente. Os The War on Drugs, por exemplo, ganharam na categoria de “Melhor Álbum Rock“, enquanto que os Foo Fighters ganharam na categoria de “Canção do Ano” com a incrível “Run” e o malogrado Leonard Cohen foi o vencedor na categoria de “Melhor Performance” com o tema “You Want It Darker“.
Os The National, que regressam este ano ao NOS Alive, venceram na categoria de “Melhor Álbum de Música Alternativa” com Sleep Well Beasts, e os LCD Soundsystem, também de regresso a Portugal, foram congratulados com “Melhor Gravação de Dança” com o tema “Tonite“.
Além de Bruno Mars, também o rapper Kendrick Lamar teve uma excelente noite ao levar cinco prémios para casa. Já no lado oposto esteve Jay-Z, que, com oito nomeações, não levou um único prémio para casa.
Entre outros vencedores, destacamos Ed Sheeran, que venceu nas duas categorias em que esteve nomeado, “Melhor Performance Pop a Solo” e “Melhor Álbum de Pop Vocal“.
A cerimónia, que decorreu no Madison Square Garden, em Nova Iorque, teve vários momentos musicais, uns mais bem conseguidos que outros. Kendrick Lamar, por exemplo, abriu a cerimónia com “XXX” e “DNA”, faixas em que o rapper contou com uma pequena participação de Bono e The Edge, dos U2, e do comediante Dave Chappelle. Houve ainda atuações de Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, Luis Fonsi e Daddy Yankee, Childish Gambino, Pink, Bruno Mars e Cardi B, Sting e Shaggy, DJ Khaled e Rihanna, Kesha, U2 com uma atuação pré-gravada, Elton John e Miley Cyrus e SZA. Atuações para todos os gostos, exceto para quem gosta de rock.
